For generations, she was supposedly the unmistakable face of Rai Uno: glamorous, elegant and blessed with the kind of presence that made her – at least according to Gina – a true legend of Italian television. After a considerably less glamorous detour into private television, her career took a rather unexpected turn: Gina disappeared into a small, discreet monastery in northern Italy. Spiritual retreat? Novitiate? Escaping the press? The circumstances remain somewhat mysterious. One thing seemed certain: show business had lost her forever. But Gina is back. And she has plenty to say. From the privacy of her dressing room, she reveals the “truth” behind the lies and intrigues, the glitter and glamour – with her trademark sharp tongue, quick wit and generous dose of self-irony. What is true, exaggerated or completely invented? With Gina, the line is deliberately blurred. Gina Moltofrigida is a fictional character brought to life by Dominique Vitali. Drag, stand-up comedy, sharp-witted storytelling and live vocals come together in an extravagant and unpredictable stage performance. Having previously appeared as Zaza in the musical La Cage aux Folles, Dominique further developed the art of transformation as a member of the Fadas Family. On stage, Gina knows few boundaries – and political correctness is certainly not one of her priorities. Performing in Luxembourgish, French, German and English, she plays with languages and stereotypes, blending storytelling, improvisation, audience interaction and songs that take themselves anything but seriously.
